Preschool Series - KNOW

In this series, children will learn that God wants us to know him. Throughout the stories of the Old Testament, we can see God’s desire to have a connection with his people. Children will learn through the stories of Joseph, Moses, David, and Daniel as they learn what it means to be known by God and for us to know God.

Kids, Jr. High and Youth Series - HELP

In this series, kids will learn the beginning of David’s life story from musician and shepherd boy to king. Kids will discover that God doesn’t choose us for his purposes based on the way that other people choose, but by what is in our hearts. David’s story helps us to see that God’s plans for us are much more interesting than anything we can dream up on our own!

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outside of a person. But the Lord looks at what is in the heart.

Kids (K - Gr. 3)

When you’re feeling hurt or sad, who do you go to first? Why?

Do you have a stuffed animal or pet that you cuddle with when you’re sad?

David Mourns 2 Samuel 1

When David was sad, what did he do? (wrote a song of sadness)

When you’re sad, what do you do that helps you deal with your feelings?

David was a poet.

The ability to write songs and poems was God’s gift to him. It helped David work through and show his sadness. It helped to comfort him, too.

What would you say in a song or a poem if you were grieving someone or were very sad about something significant.

Some people think it’s weak to show emotions. How do you feel about that?

David was a strong dude who expressed his emotions often. Do we usually see these two things connected? If so, how? If not, why do you think that is?

How do you feel about expressing your emotions to God? To others?

Have you ever tried journaling? Drawing? Do you work your emotions out in sport or exercise?

How might God help us work through our emotions?

Youth (Gr. 7-9)

When you are sad, who do you go to?

When you are mad, who do you tend to take it out on?

Do you ever get mad when you’re sad?

Why do you think that is?

We can turn to God with any of our feelings: the good, the bad, and the ugly. He can take all of it!
