The dove flew down to Jesus when he was baptized!

Today you will hear about a dove in the story from the Bible. Jesus was obeying his dad in heaven. God sent the dove because he was happy with Jesus.

Draw out or copy this dove and glue feathers or cotton or other soft items to it. You could also punch holes around the outline and practice lacing the dove.

Print off the colouring page below for your kids.

Kids and Jr. High Series - SON OF GOD

In this series, kids will grapple with the idea that Jesus lived a human life just like them. He was tempted and uncomfortable. He was hungry and thirsty. He felt joy and sadness. He felt all of the things that we feel. He lived on earth being tempted, but never sinned. Because even though Jesus was fully human, he is also God. This series is jam-packed full of incredibly rich Jesus-centred conversations waiting to happen!

“We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

John 6:69 (NIV)

Kids (K - Gr. 3)

Who in your family do you look the most like?

Who in your family do you act the most like? It what ways?

We tend to act like our parents or the siblings we spend a lot of time with.

God is three members of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

What’s true about Jesus is true about God, too!

Jesus is God’s kid, so Jesus must be a lot like God!

Get your parents to brainstorm with you a list of things that are true about Jesus.

If we want to follow Jesus, we should try to be like him!

How can you be like or do the things you brainstormed.

Read Luke 3:1-22 - Jesus' baptism

Question time...

In today’s God Story, what is happening to Jesus? Who speaks to Jesus?

What is a baptism? Why do people get baptized? Have you ever been to a baptism?

In today’s God Story, the Holy Spirit takes the form of what kind of bird? Who is the Holy Spirit?

God told Jesus that he loved him. What do you think God would say to you?

Who takes care of you? What do you think they would want to say over you the way God spoke over Jesus?

God loves us more than anyone else can love us. How does it make you feel that God loves you in such a big way?

God loves you, and he wants other people to know that he loves them too. Who can you share God’s love with this week? How?

Jesus is God's kid.

Jesus was fully human just like us. He is fully God, too. It’s a big thing to understand!

Junior High (Gr.4-6)

Jesus is God's kid

Think of someone you love—it could be a parent, a sibling, or a friend. Why do you love them?

How many of you have cousins? One of Jesus’ cousins plays a big part in today’s God Story.

Is it weird to think about Jesus having cousins?

Think about this....

People say they know I am my mom’s or dad’s kid because of my ___________________________.

Think of a characteristic or brief description (e.g., sense of humour, nose, height)

Jesus is God’s kid. Jesus shows us what his father, God, is like.

Read Luke 3:1-22

Youth Series - SON OF GOD

Jesus is one of three members of the Trinity and the rescuer God promised. It can be easy to forget that Jesus lived a human life, as a real person on earth. He was fully human and fully God at the same time. We are invited to learn from Jesus and become his disciple!

“Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!”

Luke 2:29-32 (NLT)

Youth (Gr. 7-9)

Is there anyone in your family who you act or look a lot alike?

How do people know that you “belong” in your family?

Jesus is one of three members of the Trinity and the rescuer God promised. It can be easy to forget that Jesus lived a human life, as a real person on earth. He was fully human and fully God at the same time. We are invited to learn from Jesus and become his disciple.

Think about how you felt when someone made you feel awesome.

What could you do to help other people feel the same way?

Is there someone you know (e.g., at school) whose life would change totally if they experienced that feeling?

Read the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10

What shift occurs in his life?

Pray together for people like Zacchaeus—and for how this passage affects everyone.

Jesus lived a human life and he experienced many things that we experience!

Is there an attitude or sin you struggle with? Why do you have a hard time with it?

Have you talked to Jesus about it? Why or why not?

Read Luke 3:21-22

Why do you think Jesus was baptized?

There were loads of people there! How do you think they felt?

What questions would you have if you saw it happen?

Read what the voice from heaven said in verse 22.

Jesus didn’t “earn” this for anything he did. Jesus is God’s kid whom he loves!

What’s the best thing a parent ever said to you—something that you didn’t “earn”?

What has someone said to you that made you feel awesome?

What do you think God thinks about you?

Read Zephaniah 3:17

God doesn’t “rejoice over” us because of anything we’ve done, but because he loves us!

What’s your first reaction to that?
