Preschool Series - KNOW

In this series, children will learn that God wants us to know him. Throughout the stories of the Old Testament, we can see God’s desire to have a connection with his people. Children will learn through the stories of Joseph, Moses, David, and Daniel as they learn what it means to be known by God and for us to know God.

Come near to God, and he will come near to you.

James 4:8

Kids, Jr. High and Youth Series - HELP

In this series, kids will learn the beginning of David’s life story from musician and shepherd boy to king. Kids will discover that God doesn’t choose us for his purposes based on the way that other people choose, but by what is in our hearts. David’s story helps us to see that God’s plans for us are much more interesting than anything we can dream up on our own!

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outside of a person. But the Lord looks at what is in the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7

Kids (K - Gr. 3)

What does the word “perseverance” mean?

What’s another word or phrase that means perseverance? (e.g., determination, persistence, dedication, endurance, keeping at something for a long time, continuing to try really hard)

Have you ever had to persevere in doing the right thing through something difficult? What happened?

God helps us persevere in doing the right thing.

1 Samuel 25-31

We talked a lot about David this month. He was a shepherd, a musician, and a king. The Bible tells us that he was a man after God’s own heart. And David was the great-great...plus a lot more greats...great- grandfather of Jesus!

Can you picture David?

He persevered when things got tough.

Remember his friends, the disciples? Imagine them all learning from Jesus as they sit around a dinner table with him.

The night that Jesus was going to be arrested and killed on the cross, he took his disciples to a garden to pray together.

Imagine them praying in a garden.

The disciples were very tired. They fell asleep! But Jesus didn’t. He persevered. He was tired but he kept on praying. Jesus knew he was going to be killed on the cross. He didn’t have to allow it to happen, but he did because he loves us so much.

Jesus persevered and did the best thing for us!

Is there a situation that’s tough for you?

Draw or write a prayer to God asking for help to persevere.

Junior High (Gr.4-6)

Or maybe you were going somewhere and it felt like you would never arrive? What happened?

God helps us persevere in doing the right thing.

Will you persevere or give up?

You’ve worked for hours on a science project that isn’t quite finished. It’s almost midnight and it is due tomorrow.

What do you do?

Your parents asked you to clean your room. It feels like it’s been forever and you’ve only picked up the clothes off your floor and made your bed.

What do you do?

You’ve been learning piano for years and you’re practising for a big exam. It’s been hard but passing it would be a huge accomplishment. Your parents say it’s up to you if you want to keep going.

What do you do?

You were feeling pretty darn good about yourself because you finished a big project two days early. You decided to bring it to school early, but on the way, you trip and it lands in some mud.

Romans 5:1-5

Verse 1:

What did Jesus do for us? How does that affect you?

Verse 2:

What do you think it’ll be like to share in God’s glory? What do you look forward to about being with Jesus forever? Have you ever thought about it? How does thinking about it change how you view your life today?

Verse 3:

What would it be like for you to be full of joy when you have troubles?

Verse 4-5:

Some Bible translations use “perseverance” and some use “endurance.” What does this tell us about perseverance and endurance? What does it mean for you? How could this help you when you need to persevere at school? At home? With your friends? When no one else is watching?
